The whole story of Jesus has a cost. There is good, but there is also suffering. Do you want Christ without His suffering? Do you want to be invited into other peoples stories? “Not just the bite-sized, easy-to-swallow versions but His whole story, our own, and other’s stories” says Patricia Raybon.
“We have to decide if we want the Bible to be just enough to carry us through the day without thinking too much about what it cost the people who actually wrote it and not to mention what it cost Christ.” And if we don’t want the whole story of Christ, are we going to want the whole story of the people around us. If we only want the “bite sized story” of the people around us, and the “bite sized story” of Christ, it is going to cost us.
“We can run from the Bible, with both its whispers and roar, or we can stand in God’s story in the storms of life, learning to hear all of it, even when we just want quiet and rest.”
